INTRODUCTION Datacard is a removable computer component approximately the size of a credit card which contains data or which contains non- volatile memory to which data can be written and from which data can be recovered. It is used for data operations (transfer, transformation, input, output). Some data cards are portable devices that include components like flash memory. Hence, they are useful for transfer of files among computers and short term data backup. Other data cards are used as a mobile broadband telecommunication system to link a notebook or a personal computer, using a specific adapter or some special routers, for wireless internet access.

INTRODUCTION There are two types of data card available in the market having different features and price used to access internet in laptops and desktop computers :- One 3G connect card USB Data Card PCMCIA Data Card

USB DATA CARD USB stands for ‘Universal Serial Bus’. We can use USB Data card in both Laptops and Desktops. The common connectivity for such devices is the USB standard that enables high-speed data transfer rates. These types of Data cards are used in the USB port of the computer since all modern desktops and laptops have USB interface. Generally USB Type 3G Data cards are cheap in price and very easy to install and use. Its provides the flexibility of switching from one platform to another. The USB Data Cards market for wide area communications over 3G networks is growing rapidly.

PCMCIA DATA CARD PCMCIA stands for ‘ Personal Computer Memory Card International Association ’, the group of companies that defined the standard. It is also called a PC Card. PCMCIA card is a type of special interface used in the modern laptops for connecting a variety of devices. PCMCIA 3G data cards can be used only in the laptops having this interface. Further the price of these types of cards are slightly higher. Since these cards does not provide flexibility to move from laptop to computers, one should avoid these cards. A PC Card network adapter

 First cards were based on the GPRS standard (packet data transport), then were developed for the EDGE standard increasing transmission speeds for packet data transportation. STANDARDS GSM  Stands for ( Global System for Mobile) developed by European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to describe technologies for ‘2G’ digital cellular networks.  Modern cards use advanced UMTS standard like the HSUPA and HSDPA. GSM Logo GSM Specifications Transmission Rate - 270.833 Kbps Downlink / Uplink Frequency – 890-915 MHz / 935-960 MHz Modulation Method – Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying No. of RF Carriers – 124 Carrier Seaparation – 200 KHz

STANDARDS CDMA Stands for Code division multiple access It should not be confused with the mobile phone standards called cdmaOne, CDMA2000 is a channel access method used by various radio communication technologies. WCDMA (the 3G standard which are often referred to as simply CDMA, and use CDMA as an underlying channel access method. One of the basic concepts in data communication is the idea of allowing several transmitters to send information simultaneously over a single communication channel. This allows several users to share a band of frequencies. This concept is called multiple access. CDMA employs spread- spectrum technology and a special coding scheme to allow multiple users to be multiplexed over the same physical channel. By contrast, time division multiple access (TDMA) divides access by time, while frequency-division multiple access (FDMA) divides it by frequency. CDMA is a form of spread- spectrum signalling, since the modulated coded signal has a much higher data bandwidth than the data being communicated.

EVDO DATA CARD A Kyocera PC Card EV-DO router with Wi-Fi  Stands for Evolution-Data Optimized Or Evolution-Data only.  Support high data rates and EVDO channel has a bandwidth of 1.25 MHz.  Standardized by 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) as part of the CDMA2000 family of standards and adopted by many mobile phone service providers around the world.  Uses multiplexing techniques like code division multiple access (CDMA) for maximizing individual users and overall system throughput.  A telecommunication standard for the wireless transmission of data through radio signals, typically for Broadband Internet access.

NIC DATA CARD 1990s Ethernet NIC card  Stands for ‘Network Interface Controller’.  Computer hardware component that connects a computer to a computer network.  NIC implements the electronic circuitry required to communicate using a 2 layers - physical and data link standards such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi etc.  Every Ethernet NIC has unique 48-bit serial number called MAC address, which is stored in ROM.  An Ethernet network controller typically has an RJ45 socket where the network cable is connected.  Ethernet network controllers typically support 10 Mbit/s Ethernet, 100 Mbit/s Ethernet, and 1000 Mbit/s Ethernet varieties.
