What is Crohn’s Disease? Crohn’s Disease is a form of inflammatory bowel disease. It affects the intestines but may occur anywhere in the mouth to the end of the rectum (anus.) Ulcers in the colon

Symptoms Symptoms range from mild to severe Main symptoms are- cramps, fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, pain with passing stool, watery diarrhea, weight loss Other symptoms- constipation, eye inflammation, joint pain, mouth ulcers, rectal bleeding, swollen gums

How is Crohn’s Disease Autoimmune? Crohn’s Disease is autoimmune because it causes your body’s immune system to mistakenly attack and destroy healthy body tissue.

Treatments It’s important to have a well balanced diet, however no specific diet has been shown to make symptoms better or worse Avoid high fiber and fatty foods Drink small amounts of water throughout the day

Treatments cont. Without prescription medicines- Metamucil, Citrucel, and Tylenol Prescribed medicines- Aminosalicylates, corticosteriods, azathioprine If medications do not work, bowel resection may be needed to remove the diseased part of the intestine. This does not cure the disease.
