2 The restoration of the city In the 19th century, the city was inhabited. The restoration of the city began with Viollet-le-Duc in 1853. Thanks to the drawings of Viollet-le-Duc, we can admire the work he made for the restoration of city. After the death of Viollet-le-Duc, the restoration of the city continued and it finished in 1911.

3 The Medieval City The Basilica of Saint-Nazaire The Basilica of Saint-Nazaire was completed in the first half of the twelfth century. It has the most beautiful stained glass windows in the south of France. It received in 1898 the title of basilica.

4 The Medieval City The “Château comtal” was built in two stages. This construction was started by Bernard Trencavel during the Romanesque period around 1130. It was built to replace an original castle located on the site of the Narbonne Gate. The « Château comtal »
