3 H&S Update 2005 BLS injury rates released in December 2004 –Utilize NAICS codes for 1 st time 334412 for “Bare printed circuit board manufacturing” 334418 for “Printed circuit assembly (electronic assembly) mfg –TRCIR up from 3.1 to 4.1 –LWDACR up from 0.8 to 1.4 –RWDCR same at 0.9 –LWDCR up from 1.7 to 2.3 No EMS rate (fewer than 15 cases) but 2.6

4 H&S Update 2005 BLS TRCIR injury rates for 2003 – by size – 11-49 = 6.8 – 50-249 = 3.6 –250-999 = 3.9 –> 999 = 2.2 –Overall = 4.1 Many industries and industry overall shows highest rate for 50-249 size establishements.

6 H&S Update 2005 OSHA inspections of PWB industry continues at similar pace 2/19/4-2/19/5 period shows 37 inspections with 88 violations at 25 locations 3 = No Inspection due to Out of Business Many companies not recognized >> IPC members? Short Circuits, Prototron Circuits Applied Concepts, Rhr technoligies

8 H&S Update 2005 Completed Actions OSHA Regulatory Agenda Controlled negative pressure (CNP fit testing protocol amended CNP REDON added to quantitative fit testing protocol in App’x A of 134 standard Protocol requires three exercises followed by two redonnings (was eight and one) Published 8/4/4 (69 FR 46986) eff. 9/3/4

Update design SAFETY standards –2. Address work practices & SAFETY req’ts NPRM comments ended June’04

11 H&S Update 2005 Final Actions – OSHA Regulatory Agenda Update of National Consensus Standards Current standards adopted in 1970-72 OSHA has asked consensus standards organization to review & compare and –1. Determine which stds are most important to update. –2. Which changes would be noncontroversial –3. Which changes would reduce risk
