Light Microscopes (Mag < 2000X) Simple Microscope-uses only one lens to magnify Compound Microscope-uses 2 or more lenses to contribute to the total magnification Total Magnification = (Objective lens mag) x (occular lens magnification) Dissection Microscope-Used more on the macroscopic level. Used to see structures larger than cells (organs, tissues, tendons, blood vessels).

Electron Microscopes (up to 10,000,000X) Light does some weird stuff when looked at closely (reflection, refraction, distortion, resolution difficulty) so instead of throwing light at the specimen, electrons are used. Scanning Electron Microscope= produces 3-d like images.
