24 24 PALS Changes Since BLS is the foundation of the Advanced Life Support course, AHA is allowing you to renew your BLS card under the following conditions: All testing must be completed by a BLS Instructor You must pass the skills test for 1-rescuer adult BLS Take the BLS written exam after PALS written exam An additional 30 min must be added if the whole class is being tested BLS PCR must be completed Ref AHA Training Memo dated 20 Jan 2012

25 25 PEARS Courses There are 11 Training Sites (TS) that teach PEARS. If a TS wishes to start up a PEARS course, they must submit the following forms: Affiliation cover page Dates for courses to be taught 4 current Agendas available Alternate 1 Alternate 2 Update Alternate 1 Update Alternate 2

26 26 PEARS Courses Importance: Help the basic pediatric provider develop the knowledge and skills needed for emergency evaluation and treatment of infant children Recognition of children is paramount to improving outcomes Focuses more on improving pediatric assessment and recognition skills, with less emphasis on management

27 27 PEARS Courses Benefits: Gives the student a better understanding before taking PALS (more hands on) PEARS gives them the knowledge of identifying a problem and getting help sooner Not everyone in your facility may need PALS
