Statistics of Soda Personal Project By: Katie McKoane BUS299-excel Professor Sharon Forest

Excel Workbook  I decided to do my excel workbook on statistics of soda because I love to drink soda but I have constantly been told how bad it is for me, so I look into it myself and see how much everyone loves soda like me.

Workbook Layout  Introduction  Consumption by country  History Comparison  Influence of Advertising  Financial Data  More Facts

Consumption by Country I made a bar graph chart to show the average each amount of soda, in liters, that individuals from different country’s consume per year. Americans take the leas by a long shot with consuming close to 50 billion liters of soda per year as a country total. This is about 216 liters, or 57 gallons per person.

History Comparison  I found data on the history of carbonated soft drink consumption and concluded that the increase in soda consumption since 1975 to 2000 was 14.6%  Also gathered data on other liquid consumptions and found that soda has taken over the most consumed liquid. Milk used to be the most consumed liquid and this has changed by 23% difference between consumption of soda to milk.

Influence of Advertising  This slide contains data and tables that gives information on the influence that advertising has on sales of soda.  First I collected time spent per week using select media devices by US children and teens, to see what age groups are exposed to advertisements most often.  I used a Vlookup formulas to see what age groups were above and below average of hours per week.

 Then I found soda industry advertisements and spending. From this data I concluded that Coca- Cola spends the most on advertising with Pepsi following behind.  I then conducted what age groups advertising is successful on influencing. The age groups 18-34 and 35-44 are successfully influenced.

Financial Data On this sheet is a comparison Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo Inc., including data of(year 19975-2000) Soft drinks, US and International Sales and Operating profit/sales Consolidated Sales, Net Profit/sales, Net profit/equity and Long term debt/assets I used a nested IF function to find which brand was sold the most on average. Coke has highest sales in US and internationally
