2 Four special situations when using an AED: 1.Hairy chest—press down firmly on pads, shave chest, or rip hair off with sticky pads (ouch  ) 2.Wet/water—move away from water and dry victim off 3.Pacemaker—place pads 1 to 2 inches away from pacemaker. 4.Medicine patch—remove patch or place pads 1 to 2 inches away from patch Extra (child wait—adult now)

3 2-person CPR & AED Key Points: Person # 1 (first person on the scene) is responsible for checking the victim and breathing Person # 2 (Phone 911, get an AED, & operate the AED), Person # 3 and Person # 4 (compressions) Child (1-8) 5 sets 30:2, then use AED Infant (birth to 1) 5 sets 30:2, then use AED Adult (8 and up) Use AED immediately Remember the 4 universal steps to using an AED—turn it on, attach pads, analyze heart rhythm, and deliver shock. Take heed of the four special situations (hairy chest, wet/water, pacemaker, and medicine patch) and know what to do Remember to clear everyone while the AED analyzes the heart rhythm and before you deliver a shock. After delivery of the shock, do 5 cycles of 30 compressions and two breaths. Repeat if necessary.
