4 What is equestrianism?  Equestrianism is a fancy term for horse riding  Equestrians are horse riders  Horse riding is a hard and dangerous sport  The riders and horses must work as a team to complete a certain event.

5 Equipment  The most important item for horse riding is a horse  For your horse the basic equipment is 1. Bridle 2. Saddle 3. Saddle blanket  For the rider the basic equipment is 1. Helmet 2. Jodhpurs 3. Boots

6 Types of riding There's plenty of events horse riders do: The most common English riding; 1. Show jumping 2. Dressage 3. Eventing 4. Showing 5. Mounted games The most common western riding: 1. Barrel racing 2. Bending 3. Reining 4. Cutting 5. Working cow horse Reining Eventing

7 How to mount a horse  Before you think about mounting a horse, you must be on the left hand side.  Step 1: with your left hand grab both of the reins and some mane.  Step 2: with your right hand grab the stirrup and place your left foot in it.  Step 3: with your right hand now place it on the pommel (the front of the saddle)  Step 4: push off the ground with your right leg and swing it over the horses rump and softly land in the saddle, place your foot in the other stirrup.  Make sure you DON’T put your right hand on the cantle (back of the saddle) while mounting
