However, just providing a roof over the head is not enough. The requisite infrastructure is also important. The issue of waste management is crucial and NBCC, being a pioneer in this field, could suggest affordable solutions for others. Hon’ble Union Urban Development Minister. Sh. M. Venkaiah Naidu spoke about three major initiatives for urban development- the Smart City Mission, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and Housing for all. He further conveyed that the government is committed to the goal of providing housing for all. However, there are many structural issues such as high gestation period of housing projects, accelerating land and construction cost, low affordability by economically weaker sections (EWS) and low income groups (LIG). These are some of the bottlenecks restricting desired growth in this sector with respect to housing demand. There is a shortage of 2 crore houses and 95 percent of the shortage is in the EWS and LIG. ” July 2015 8 Shri K.V. Chowdhary, Chief Vigilance Commissioner Shri M.
