2 What is CPAP? CPAP is a continuous positive airway pressure treatment that is used for patients that have breathing disorders such as Sleep Apnea CPAP is also used to treat premature infants that do not have fully developed lungs

3 CPAP Machine Composed of a flow generator that pushes positive pressure into a tube that connects to a mask The mask is placed on the patients nose and/or mouth, where the air enters and then continues to the throat keeping the upper airway open.

4 Advantages/Disadvantages Advantages Decrease of possible risks of:  Arrhythmias  Heart Failure  High Blood pressure  Stroke Improve overall sleep cycle Improve survival rate for premature infants Disadvantages Lack of patient compliancy Patient are uncomfortable with equipment

5 Future Better patient compliancy Research for possible alternative treatments Change in design of the equipment
