Baltic Sea 330 km The Baltic Region is home to the largest known deposit of amber. In Poland amber is found mainly in surroundings of the Gdańsk Bay, Vistula Penisula and Hel Penisula. Warsaw The Baltic Sea is an inland sea, located on the north of Europe. All the beaches of the Baltic Sea in Poland are sandy. On the sandy beaches don’t grow any crops, but often hang out different birds: gulls, terns and swans wintering here. The largest Polish rivers that fall into the Baltic Sea are: the Vistula and the Oder. Area: 386 000 km 2 Average depth: 52.3 m The water temperature in summer: to 22 °C The organisms living in the Baltic Fish: flounder, cod, mackerel, eel Mammals: Grey Seal, porpoise Crustaceans: Shrimp, crab Algaes

Gdańsk is a port city. It is a capital city of province- Pomorze. About 460 000 of people live there. In the past Gdańsk was a fishing village and a capital city of the kings. Now it’s the most popular city in Poland to visit. Interesting place to visit are: Amber Museum, Old Town, St. Mary ‘s Church, Westerplatte (the historic site where World War II broke out). Gdańsk and two other famous cities (Gdynia and Sopot) are called Trójmiasto. In Sopot live only less than 32 000 of people. The most interesting places to visit in Sopot are: the longest wooden pier in Europe (512 m.), and funny house („Krzywy Dom”- „Crookeed House”). Świnoujście it’s the only city which is located on 3 big islands (Wolin, Uznam, Karsibór) and 41 other smaller islands. About 41 000 of people live there. There is the highest lighthouse in Poland, which was built in 1859 and has 68 meters height. Hel (a city on Hel Penisula) has only 3720 people. Hel is not a typical place - surrounded by water from 3 sides (end of Hel's peninsula). It’s very popular turistic region for people who like to dive, sail and fish. Interesting place to visit are: Hel Marine Station (with seal centre), museum, port and lighthouse.
