By: Chris Spivey

2 Definitions Word Problem- Using your understanding and knowledge of mathematical concepts and principles to find solutions in new unfamiliar situations. Decimals- A number containing a decimal point like 0.07 and 1.35 are decimals. Fractions- A number that compares part of an object or a set with the whole. Example, The fraction ¾ means 3 parts out of a total of 4 equal parts.

3 Word Problem with Fractions
Example: 2/3 of the 15 cars left the parking lot. An 8-3/4 foot board must be shortened to 6-1/3 feet. How much must be removed?

4 Solved With Fractions Answer: 10. Solution: 1/3 of 15 is 5. 2/3 of 15 is 2 x 5 = 10. The number of cars that left the parking lot is 10. Solution: removed = current length - new length 2 5/12 = 8 3/4 feet – 6 1/3 feet

5 Word Problem with Decimals
To make a miniature ice cream truck, you need tires with a diameter between cm and cm. Will a tire that is cm in diameter work? Explain why or why not.

6 Solved With Decimals Now let's order these decimals from least to greatest. Let's start by writing one decimal beneath the other in their original order 1.4720 1.4691 Now let's order these decimals from least to greatest    1.4720   Answer :A tire that is cm in diameter will work since is between and 1 . 4 6 5 7 2 9
