1 Holidays, Festivals and Food in China By: Adam Kamenetz and Hannah Katz

2 Introduction There are many different holidays in China. Also, there are many foods that they eat during the holidays. There are many religious holidays, holidays that are celebrated in different parts of China, the traditional dragons of the New Year, food on holidays and normal food in China. Now let’s explore Chinese holidays and food!!!

3 Spring festival The Spring Festival is also known as Chinese New Year. It can be held in late January or early February. It can last an entire week. It is celebrated in all the parts of China.

4 Harvest Moon Festival The Harvest Moon Festival mostly is celebrated on mountains and hills. The Chinese people do that so they can get a good view of the moon. It celebrates the harvest. They burn moon papers- papers that have rabbits and 3 legged toads on them because they are the moon’s companions in Chinese mythology.

5 The Lantern Festival The Lantern Festival falls 2 weeks after Chinese New Year. During this festival, the Chinese people hold candlelit lanterns shaped like goldfish and red globes.

6 Dragon Boat Festival The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated in the southern part of China. It is celebrated to remember the poet Qu Yuan. The people of China respected him very much.

7 Qing Ming Festival This festival takes place in the month of April. The Chinese people honor the dead on this holiday. Chinese people rip weeds and flowers out of the ground, and plant them around grave sites. In the past years, it is also celebrated to honor the people that fought in the Revolutionary War.

8 Festival Of Ice And Snow The festival of ice and snow is celebrated in the northern part of China. The temperature can be -22 Fahrenheit. This festival is celebrated so that the Chinese people can enjoy cold weather. They carve large ice sculptures into the shape of animals.

9 Fun Facts About Dragons Of The New Year A dragon is a very fierce and legendary creature that the Chinese people worship. A dragon is supposed to have a long life. They are good luck because they are said to scare away evil spirits. They share features that other animals have. For example, the scales of a fish. Dragons are also mythical and intelligent creatures. Dragons are fire breathing monsters.

10 Fun Facts About Dragons Of the New Year Continued Did you know that dragons are a power for good in many cultures? Also, a dragon is a creature that has reptilian traits. Dragons are also a symbol of strength. A dragon is a very recognized creature. Furthermore, the dragon was adopted as a national symbol when tribes fought to be the best.

11 Food In China Pecking duck is a way to make duck in China. It was created in Beijing, China. Xiao Long Bao is a bun steamed in bamboo that they eat in China. Sea cucumbers are marine animals that are found at the bottom of the sea. Chinese rich people would eat things like dog, snake, and bear paws.
