1 Mechanical Engineering By: Devin Rose, Nick Cowen, Sarah Yee

2 History  Mechanical Engineering is as old as man.  Making tools and weapons to help them.  It has advanced over the years due to advancement in science and math.  It is exponentially growing and will always continue to grow exponentially. (ASME Organization)  Mechanical engineering will only stop when people stop dreaming and imagining.

3 Jobs  There are many sub disciplines (jobs) that you can get with a mechanical engineering degree. A few for example are  Automotive  Robotics  Biomechatronics  Marine Engineering  Nanotechnology  Acoustical Engineering  *The Average annual income is $80,580, with the highest 10% earning at least $121,530, and the lowest 10% at $52,030 *Bureau of Labor Statistics

4 Automotive  A mechanical engineer will do almost everything when it comes to the automotive side of mechanical engineering.  In a car you a mechanical engineer can help design, build, analyze data, and develop new procedures.  The building, designing, etc. can be with any part of the car for example:  Air Bags  Doors  Engines  Brake  Etc. http://www.enerdyneengineering.com/mechanical_engineering_sub_disciplines.asp

5 Robotics  Robotics is an obvious sub discipline of mechanical engineering.  People make robots that are more advanced than ever that can do almost anything.  Some robots can help build cars and others can help make your favorite candy bar.  Robotics are a huge field to get into, even the military uses them. http://www.enerdyneengineering.com/mechanical_engineering_sub_disciplines.asp

6 Biomechatronics  This deals with a lot of mechanized devices and the human body.  People who get into this will make prosthetic limbs and other mechanical devices along those lines.  One huge part of this is the making of artificial hearts and ventricular devices. http://www.enerdyneengineering.com/mechanical_engineering_sub_disciplines.asp

7 Marine Engineering  Anyone looking to getting into marine engineering will be on vassals a lot of the time.  They are basically advanced mechanics for these huge boats  Or they can help design and build new boats.  Marine Engineers can pretty much do it all when it comes to boats and everything about them. http://www.enerdyneengineering.commechanical_engineering_sub_disciplines.asp

8 Nanotechnology  Works with extremely small components, atoms, molecules.  Can be used across all other science fields.  Involves the ability to see and control individual nano-objects.  Usually deals with the use of scanning tunneling microscopes and the atomic force microscope.  Today’s scientists constantly working on making materials at nano-scale to take advantage of properties.  Higher strength, lighter weight, increased control of light spectrum, and greater chemical reactivity than its counterparts http://www.enerdyneengineering.com/mechanical_engineering_sub_disciplines.asp

9 Acoustical Engineering  Deals with transducers and sound measuring instruments of all kinds.  Most universities do not offer a specific degree in acoustical engineering.  Takes part in medical diagnosis, communications, seismic surveying, and recording and reproducing speech and music.  Different branches include:  Architectural, musical, noise control, physical, speech and hearing, underwater, bio and medical, and structural/vibration. www.acousticalsociety.org

10 How to Get a Job According to the ASME website (www.asme.org) there are 7 steps.www.asme.org  (1.) Keep resume up to date  (2.) Network with colleagues, family, and friends  (3.) Tap into your alumni association  (4.) Work part time/volunteer  (5.) Identify companies of interest  (6.) Expand your opportunities  (7.) Don’t get discouraged

13 Imagination Drives the World  Endless possibilities in Mechanical Engineering.  Always a high demand for a great mind and imagination.  Without the creativeness and drive for advancements in society, we wouldn’t have the things we have today…  Everyone always looking for something new/better.  Constant competition and imaginations makes the Mechanical Engineering world go ‘round.
