1 Spherical Mirrors - Starter
Is this person using a convex or concave mirror?

2 Spherical Mirrors Each student must complete A. – D. and hand it in.
Research the two types of spherical mirrors, and draw one of each. Draw and label the optic axis, the center of curvature, and the focal point for each mirror. Show how rays parallel to the optic axis reflect from the mirrors. B. When an object is placed to the left of each mirror, there are three principle rays used to locate the image. Draw the path of each principle ray. Do this for both mirrors. 1. A ray from the object that is parallel to the optic axis and reflects off the mirror. 2. A ray from the object that is passes through the center of curvature and reflects off the mirror. 3. A ray from the object that passes through the focal point

3 Spherical Mirrors C. Design an experiment to locate the focal point of a concave and convex spherical mirror. You may use a ray box ( a device that emits parallel light beams) and the mirrors themselves. Find a numerical value for the focal length of each mirror. Present your results. Include the ray diagrams and measurements. Be sure to hand in: 1. Drawings of parallel rays reflecting off each type of mirror (A.) 2. Drawings of each mirror with three principle rays (B). 3. Diagrams of ray box experiment. (C) 4. Numerical values for the focal lengths of each mirror.
