MECHANICAL ENGINEERING 1 INDIAN CENTRAL SCHOOL - Career Counselling Team, Activity Department

MMechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. It applies the principles of physics and material science for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineers use the core concepts of engineering like mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, material science and structural analysis along with the tools like computer aided engineering and product life cycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and more. 2

ELIGIBILITY TTo pursue Mechanical Engineering degree one should have passed 10+2 examination from a recognized board of India with a minimum of 55% marks with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. 3 INDIAN CENTRAL SCHOOL - Career Counselling Team, Activity Department

 Courses offered: Following are the mechanical engineering courses offered in India:  B.E / B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering)  M.E / M.Tech (Mechanical Engineering)  Diploma in Mechanical Engineering  PhD (Mechanical Engineering) 4 INDIAN CENTRAL SCHOOL - Career Counselling Team, Activity Department

SCOPE :  Mechanical Engineers are required in all manufacturing facilities. The working criteria of a mechanical engineer changes according to the type and domain of the company they are working with and the area of specialization. In a broader sense it can be said that mechanical engineer works on design and control of a system that goes into the process of manufacturing the machinery and product. He tests new systems for feasibility and efficiency and carries out quality management and improvement process. There is tremendous scope for mechanical engineers in automobile engineering, cement industry, steel, power sector, hydraulics, manufacturing plants, drilling and mining industry, petroleum, aeronautical, biotechnology and many more. Nowadays they are also increasingly needed in the environmental and bio- medical fields. A beginner in Mechanical Engineering can opt for various job openings such as: Maintenance Engineer, safety Engineer, Quality Assurance, CNC Programmer, Jr. Engineer, Design Engineer, CAD/CAM Trainer, Production Supervisor/Engineer, R&D Trainee etc 5 INDIAN CENTRAL SCHOOL - Career Counselling Team, Activity Department

SYLLABUS:  Some of the subjects taught in mechanical engineering course are statics, dynamics, kinematics, Strength of material, Material Science, Theory of Machines, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Manufacturing, Machine Design, Electrical Circuits, Engineering Economics, Metallurgy, Manufacturing Process, Computer Aided Design, Automobile Engineering, Industrial Automation and Robotics etc 6 INDIAN CENTRAL SCHOOL - Career Counselling Team, Activity Department

REMUNERATION  Remuneration for a mechanical engineer is dependent upon the type of organization he is working in. Small and medium scale companies hire mechanical engineers starting from 15000 to 20000 per month. Large companies and MNCs give a starting package of 15000 to 35000 per month for fresh graduates. From here on the annual pay packet depends on a number of factors such as the skill set possessed, experience, expertise, the employer, nature of roles and responsibilities, etc. Highly skilled mechanical engineers can easily command pay packets as high as 40-45 lacs per annum 7 INDIAN CENTRAL SCHOOL - Career Counselling Team, Activity Department
