ABOUT OŚWIĘCIM/AUSCHWITZ -Oświęcim is a town in the Lesser Poland, located 50 km west of Kraków and near the rivers Sola and Vistula. -Oświęcim was established in 1117 and nowadays it has a population of 40.000 inhabitants in an area of 30.3 km2. -Oświęcim is famous because it has the famous concentration camp of Auschwitz.

3. HISTORY OF OŚWIĘCIM - Oświęcim was established in 1117 and in 1179 it was joined to Silesia. During the years, in Oświęcim there were German and Polish people living in peace and in 1457 de king Casimir the first of Poland bought Oświęcim. Since there, Oświęcim became the center of the protestans culture in Poland. - The city was destroyed by Sweden in 1655 and later was divided in two kingdoms. AUSCHWITZ - Auschwitz concentration camp was a network of German Nazi concentration camps and extermination camps built and operated by the Third Reich in Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany during World War II. It consisted of Auschwitz I (the original camp), Auschwitz II–Birkenau (a combination concentration/extermination camp), Auschwitz III–Monowitz (a labor camp to staff an IG Farben factory), and 45 satellite camps. 1.1 million of people where killed here

5. LOCAL SPORTS IN OŚWIĘCIM - The ice hockey team of TH Unia Oświęcim was crowned Polish champions 8 times as of 2010. Sports club Unia Oświęcim was established in 1946, and apart from ice-hockey, it has such departments, as swimming, figure skating, and association football (as Zasole-Unia Oświęcim). In the past, Unia had boxing, table tennis, volleyball, track and field, cycling and basketball departments. Another sports organization from Oświęcim is Sports Club Sola (established 1919). 6. FAMOUS PEOPLE OF OŚWIĘCIM - Polish figure skaters Sabina Wojtala, Dorota Siudek and Mariusz Siudek are from the town. Other notable people from the town include Rabbi Aaron Miller (father of chazzan Benzion Miller), Marian Kasperczyk (Polish-born French painter) and Victor Zarnowitz (American economist). - Members of Parliament (Sejm) elected from this constituency include Janusz Chwierut (PO), Paweł Graś (PO), Paweł Kowal (PiS), Marek Jerzy Łatas (PiS), Leszek Murzyn (LPR), Marek Polak (PiS), and Stanisław Rydzoń (SLD-UP).
