3 Ideas Activity Read the story below: I went on vacation this summer. It was a lot of fun. We camped at night and hiked during the day. It was exciting to be in the woods and I hope that I go again next year.

4 Was This An Interesting Story? Write Down Any Questions You Have After Reading The Story. Example Questions: Where Did The Writer Go? Who Else Went? What Made It Fun? What Was The Weather Like? What Is The Most Memorable Event?

5 Now It's Your Turn. Write About A Vacation You Enjoyed Keeping Your Questions In Mind. But First Lets Take A Look At An Example.

6 The Beginning Of One Writer's Revised Vacation Story This past August my friend and I hopped into my Honda and headed to Glacier National Park in Montana. We had a long drive in front of us. But, we passed the time by imagining the adventures we'd have trekking through the park's winding trails. As we cruised through the flat lands of North Dakota, our eye lids started to droop. So, we stopped at a tiny motel that had a blazing sign stating, "Rest your head, in our comfy bed." Unfortunately, when we arrived in our room, we discovered that we weren't the only ones to rest our head there. Under the blankets, we discovered........

8 Now It's Your Turn. Write About A Vacation You Enjoyed Keeping Your Questions In Mind. Your paper must be at least three paragraphs long. What does a good paragraph look like?

10 2. Next, write at least three supporting details. Supporting details provide explanations, facts, and examples that develop and backup the main idea. 1. Begin with a topic sentence. The topic sentence states the main idea of the paragraph. 3. End with a concluding sentence. Concluding sentences refer back to the topic sentence and wrap up the paragraph. Paragraph Construction

11 Getting Organized Use A Graphic Organizer To Help Organize Your Ideas.

12 Vacation Writing Rubric The vacation adventure must be at least three paragraphs long. Each paragraph is worth 4 points, for a total of 12 points. Each paragraph must have: 1.A topic sentence. 2.At least three supporting details, using a variety of sentences in a voice appropriate for the audience. 3.A concluding sentence. 4.Be proofread and edited (and legible if handwritten). In addition, there is one point each for the following: 1.Graphic Organizer used and attached. 2.Rough draft attached. 3.Paragraph 1 introduces the vacation adventure. 4.Paragraph 2 tells the main events that happened on the vacation. 5.Paragraph 3 wraps up the vacation adventure. 6.Student name and date is on the paper. Total points possible 18
