What is LEGO Robotics? Students are introduced to high-order thinking concepts in the user-friendly environment of LEGO and icon-based programming.

Why LEGO Robotics in School? Constructivist/student centered (high motivation activities/relevance ) Aligns to New York State standards: math/science/technology, and applied learning, etc. Career pathways: Math, science, technology becomes more meaningful Programmatic challenges (builds on literacy, interdisciplinary, problem solving skills) After-school clubs as collaborative teams reinforcing skills and knowledge Teams and competitions

What is FIRST LEGO? With the help of LEGO MINDSTORMS Robotics Invention System technology, young participants can build a robot and compete in a friendly, FIRST-style robotics event specially designed for their age group. Using LEGO bricks and other elements such as sensors, motors, and gears, teams gain hands-on experience in engineering and computer programming principles as they construct and program their unique robot inventions.
