Square Units square units- a unit for measuring area, such as a square inch or a square centimeter. 1 square inch 1 square centimeter or or 1 inch² 1 centimeter² © 2007 M. Tallman

Length (ℓ)- a side (usually the bottom) of a polygon.

Area of a Rectangle or Square
If you know the length (ℓ) and the width (w) of a rectangle or square, you can use a formula to find its area. If you multiply the ℓ × w, you get the area (A). A = ℓ × w or A = ℓw A = 4 cm × 1 cm A = 4 cm² A = 5 cm × 3 cm A = 15 cm² A = 6 cm × 6 cm A = 36 cm²
