2 Definition A purpose statement captures succinctly why the organization exists and what it does. Usually purpose statements are phrased like this: “We are ________________ who _____________ by _________________.” A purpose statement captures succinctly why the organization exists and what it does. 3 Qualities of a Purpose Statement Specific - Unique to your organization. Measurable - How will you know it has been accomplished? Attainable - Achievable within the realm of faith. Relevant - Worthy of accomplishment. Time-bound - Incorporates a time frame for accomplishment. Strategic - It will capture the resources of our entire organization. SETI Institute: Our purpose is to explore, understand, and explain the origin, nature, prevalence and distribution of life in the universe.
