2 Granada is in southwestern Spain, above the border between Morocco and Algeria.

Granada has a population of 237,929 people. There are about 7003 people per square mile The population fluctuates because Granada is a student city and many people come from abroad to study.

4 Date Founded Granada was founded by Moors in the eighth century A.D.
Granada was captured by Castilian troops in 1492 which marked the end of Moorish control in Spain.

5 Al Andalus Al Andalus means moorish Spain
Moorish forces took over Granada with help from the pre existing Jewish community. Civil conflicts arose when it became the capital of the caliphate of Cordoba. The war led to the destruction of the city in 1010.

6 The Alhambra It was built in the 14th century.
The Alhambra translates to “the red one” It is considered one of the ten wonders of the world. It was built in the 14th century. It influenced Portugal architecture greatly.

8 The Albaicin The Albaicin is an Arabic quarter in Granada.
It is a common site for artists The Albaicin still remains a strictly Feeling.

9 Importance to Spain The Alhambra in Granada is an UNESCO World Heritage center. Granada brings many people in with their universities. Granada has many beautiful moorish gardens and many important museums.
