1 Just How Multicultural IS St. Joseph High School?? Survey Completed and Data Complied by All of Ms. Duff’s Geography Classes

2 During Nov./Dec. of 2013, 700 SJH students completed surveys for us. The results are in! Check it out!

4 **41 Different Countries!! 82% of Jags (577 students) were born in Canada. Almost 20% of our students were not born in Canada. 5 Where were your parents born? This is where it gets really interesting! Though 370 respondents have parents who were both born in Canada, 47% of Jags have one parent who was not born in Canada!

10 Imagine All the Festivals We Could Have!!! When asked if they identified with more than one culture, Jags declared that they celebrate traditions that come from over 85 countries! Other cultural connections, beyond those directly linked to countries, include Canadian Aboriginal, Acadian, Persian, and Habesha traditions.

11 Many students are also involved in activities that connect to their culture, such as language, music, and traditional dance classes.

Y: 103 (22%) N: 476 **A significant portion of students acknowledged that they probably have ancestors of Aboriginal decent but that they are unaware of that portion of their family’s history.

15 Jags in Celebration Most Jags celebrate the Christian holidays (Easter, Christmas, etc.). However, other holidays that Jags celebrate are: Islamic holidays (Eid, Ramadan, etc.), Jewish holidays (Chanukah, Passover, etc.), Sikh holidays (Vaisakhi, etc.), Hindu holidays (Diwali, Navaratri, etc.), and national Filipino, Vietnamese, Korean, Cambodian, Pakistani, German, Ukrainian, Chinese, Nigerian, Haitian, Latin American and Serbian holidays (eg. Independence Days, New Years, Posada, Day of the Dead, Saint Nicolas Day, Slava, etc.)

16 Together, We Celebrate Our Faith Though, some respondents did identify as being Agnostic or Atheist, the overwhelming majority of Jags celebrate their faith with their families and communities.
