3  Trust is a key factor in developing our students minds. As teacher we are obligated to be role models as defined in most of our philosophies of teaching. This website depicts the opposite. Teachers have used their trust as tools to violate students’ parents’, and the community’s trust.  Miramonte school will replace 88 teachers and 40 staff due to the sex scandal. This website highlights the emotional effects of staff, parents and the children.  http://www.lawfirms.com/female-teacher-sex-crime-offenders- and-scandals.htmlhttp://www.lawfirms.com/female-teacher-sex-crime-offenders- and-scandals.html  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2098073/THIRD-teacher-picked- students-sex-abuse-Miramonte-Elementary-School.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2098073/THIRD-teacher-picked- students-sex-abuse-Miramonte-Elementary-School.html

6 Impact on Learning A frequent problem with sexual abuse is that the child engages in more sexualized behavior compared to children who are not sexually abused. Since the abuse took place on and in the body, the body becomes the enemy. They carry a great deal of pain and memories. They desperately try to cope with the pain which can lead to eating disorders, self- inflicting injuries, inability to have sex, or engaging in sex often, poor body image, generalized separation from and disregard for one's body, dissociation, sexual impurity, and gender-identity issues http://www.allaboutlifechallenges.org/impact-of-sexual-abuse-in-children-faq.htm

7 Standards Standard 1 1.G - 9 th to 12 th Describe physical, sexual, and emotional changes associated with being a young adult. The students will listen to a ten minute lecture on state education laws for sports at the high school level, for young men and women. Football, wrestling, hockey, basketball etc. Then the students will be asked to reply to the question. should all contact sports should be open to both genders?. The instructor will then follow up with pros and cons of the argument. Then pose more questions. Is it fair to not allow co-ed contact sports in high schools? More relevant health Issues will be brought up by the teacher, muscle growth, personal space, emotional feelings and much more. Standard 1 9.G Explain law related to sexual behavior and the involvement of minors. Class will start with a thirty minute lecture covering all state and federal sex laws that protect and guide minors in today’s society. The students will then create a mock court. Each student will have a role in the mock court. Victims, defendants, lawyers, and a jury will be selected. Relevant mock court cases will be introduced by the judge which will be played by the instructor, or an over achiever student.

8 Statistics A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds *More than five children die every day as a result of child abuse. 2 2 Approximately 80% of children that die from abuse are under the age of 4. 1 1 It is estimated that between 50-60% of child fatalities due to maltreatment are not recorded as such on death certificates. 3 3 More than 90% of juvenile sexual abuse victims know their perpetrator in some way. 4 4 Child abuse occurs at every socioeconomic level, across ethnic and cultural lines, within all religions and at all levels of education. 11 Shakeshaft (2003) found that 9.6 percent of students in a national survey reported experiencing educator sexual abuse (of contact and non- contact types) at some point in their previous k-12 school years. Data suggest more female perpetrators (42.8% compared to 57.2% male) than is commonly assumed (Educator Sexual Misconduct, 2004). The same report also summarizes evidence that 28.3% of this sexual abuse is same- sex abuse (15.2% male-male and 13.1% female-female). Further illuminating the issue of sexual abuse in schools, the table below summarizes Shakeshaft's findings of rates of offense by professional position.
