Check clearing: all cheques are sent to a bank in london called clearing house which sort all checks. All details of the checks are sent to bank of England which transfer the amount from one bank to another bank and sends the notification about credit and debit to respective banks.

Banker’s automated clearing services(BACS): it was setup by larger banks to deal with standing orders and direct debit payments. It is used to pay monthly salaries directly into employee’s accounts. It is also used to pay regular bills and payments such as pensions, loan payments and electronic and telephone bills. ATM (automated teller machine): you can get cash from ATM or deposit money/check when the banks are closed.

Advantages of using ATM from bank point of view are: – Staff are freed from routine work so that they can perform more profitable sales. – Fewer staff are needed which saves money for the bank. – 24 hours service is provided to customers that brings cutomer satisfaction.

Advantages of using ATM from customer point of view are: – It is possible to withdraw money any time. – Perform another transaction like balance inquiry, depositing money, … etc.

Information system in traffic control system It is used to control the traffic during morning such hours. Sensors in road are used to detect the frequency of vehicles on either side and send the data to the computer and to analyze and adjust the traffic signal timings. Aims of traffic control system: – To improve traffic flow. – To reduce accidents – To make sure that delay in journey is kept to minimum.

Car park management system: it shows how many spaces are available so that drivers do not have to drive around to find parking space. Vehicle speeding system and red light cameras: it detects vehicle speed and camera takes a picture of the speeding vehicle. Red light cameras detect and photograph those vehicles that have passed the red light.

Weather forecasting system: the traffic control centers also has several remote stations which collect data about the weather and relay it back to the center. It measures wind speed, humidity, air temperature and ground temperature. Pollution monitoring: the local authority uses the computer monitoring system to detect pollution gases such as nitrous oxide and sulphur dioxide.

Information Systems in Education Effect on pattern of learning: conventional lessons with teacher using black board and markers are dull. Students are interested in learning using computer which is more effecting and interesting. Benefits of using ICT to aid learning: the internet allows you to access unlimited information about any topic faster. The conventional way of getting information from the library is slow and incomplete.

Distance learning: it means students and teachers are not at the same location and learn about subject via internet/television interactively such as open universities. Special needs: handicap can learn using computers such as blind people are able to use special keyboards to input data. Using computers to organize events in school: parent’s evening, timetables, sport days can be organized using computers.

Data logging equipments: it is a process in which sensors are used to collect data automatically such in a chemistry experiments. Control equipment: it automatically turns on or off school heating and cooling systems.

Information systems in Music Industry Sound recording: involve detecting sound and storing it on disk or tape to play later. Synthesizers: the electrical signals which correspond to the desired sounds are generated directly using device called synthesizer. These signals can be combined with signals produced by conventional instruments and recorded.

Recording studios: the modern studios store music initially in RAM of the computer. When the final version of the music ready then they copy them to the hard disk or CDROM. Sound Sampling : is performed when sound is taken into a computer system.

IT and TV/Video Industry Computer generated graphics: these are generated by the computers for news and advertisement. Special effects: special effects are produced with digital video signals since each pixel can be moved individually. You also zoom in or out images. Animation: in the past, artists used to draw several pictures called frames and put them in sequence to generate animation such as cartoons. This is tedious. Now individuals frames can be created using graphic software and then produce animation.
