2 ACADEMIC PROGRAMS There are not many academic programs fully dedicated for Islamic Economics and Finance There are some universities offering the field from bachelor to Ph.D level Many Islamic Economics and Finance programs and courses are part of Economics and Finance academic program. Geographically, they are concentrated in Southeast and South Asia, Middle East, and later in UK Lectures are delivered in either English or Arabic

3 MIDDLE EAST Mostly, the lectures are delivered in Arabic, except some new programs in Gulf countries: Saudi Arabia : Imam Muhammad Bin Saud Islamic University, Riyadh (bachelor degree), King Abdul Aziz University, Jeddah (courses), King Fahd University, Dammam (new program) Jordan : Yarmouk University, Irbid (bachelor degree), University of Jordan (courses) Others : Al Azhar Univ (Egypt), Qatar Foundation (Qatar, in English), University of Ajman (UAE, in English), University of Bahrain, Sherif University (Iran)

4 South and Southeast Asia Relatively most developed academic program is coming from these regions: Pakistan : International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), in English, all level from bachelor to Ph.D Malaysia : International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), in English, all level from bachelor to Ph.D Others in Malaysia : National University of Malaysia/UKM (program), North Malaysia University/UUM (program), International Center for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF), Mara Technology University Others : University of Brunei Darussalam (Brunei), Islamic University of Indonesia (Indonesia), Islamic University of Bangladesh (Bangladesh)

5 WESTERN WORLD UK : Durham University (master and Ph.D program), Markfield Institute of Higher Education (master and Ph.D program), Surrey University (one course), University of Bangor (master program), Nottingham University. France : Strassbourg University, Paris Dauphine North America : Mc Gill University Canada (one course), University of Pennsylvania (one course), Rice University Texas (one course) Australia : La Trobe University, Melbourne (master program)

7 CURRICULUM OVERVIEW The most ideal system is if the students already have a solid foundation of Economics and/or finance. There are some courses related to Shariah (Islamic law) concerning economic activities in Islam. Some Arabic understanding is very important. It will cover the specialization/ focus on economics, finance, accounting, and management.
