16 { Arabic April Newsletter During the month of April, mainly after the Spring break, we focused on the characteristics of the spring season. The children drew the spring nature and danced to the song “Tol’et ashams”.The new vocabulary words introduced are: “arrabi’,asafir, ashjar, azhar.” We also talked about some farm animals after introducing a related song and we drew these animals: deek, sous, batta, qitta, kalb,Kharouf and read related stories like “Al mouzare’ Rami”. We continued writing the date and singing the alphabet song. We started writing the work plan (khottat al ‘amal) on the board, and the children enjoyed ticking off the activities after being tackled. The children also started practicing how to write their names following the right directionality as well as recognizing each other’s names. 17 Music in kg1aApril 2015 Our fish group has continued to meet in big spaces with room to move, either the stage in the LS Auditorium or the MS music room. The children are exploring ways of moving to the sounds of whales and dolphins. They share their ideas about how various sea creatures move, as well as simply moving through the space in a more spontaneous way. The whale and dolphin sounds also inspire the children make similar sounds using both their voices and recorders. Small groups continue to make regular visits to the Music Atelier, exploring concepts such as tempo (fast and slow), dynamics (big and small sounds) by playing instruments individually, and as a group. Whole group meetings are a time to play instruments together, using big and small sounds. The students take turns using recorders and drums to accompany their singing of favorite songs old and new such as Dr. Foster, ABCD, Shortenin’ Bread. The students in the Chef de L’Orchestre group recently shared their conducting with their friends, adding another dimension to our large group work.

18 { Early Years PE Newsletter April 2015

19 What we did Early Years PE April 2015 During PE our focus for Nursery and KG1 was working in groups to perform various movements (running, skipping, crawling through hoops). The children also had to balance balls on a Frisbee and a bean bag on their heads while moving from one end of the gym and back. Children had to learn to wait for their turn and encourage their group during the activities. KG2 focus was on Basketball, mainly on dribbling the ball. Basketball helps with coordination and improves physical fitness.
