Exodus 4:24-26 “At a lodging place on the way, the Lord met [Moses] and was about to kill him. 25 But Zipporah took a flint knife, cut off her son’s foreskin and touched [Moses'] feet with it. "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me," she said. 26 So the Lord let him alone. (At that time she said "bridegroom of blood," referring to circumcision.)” Why did God almost kill Moses? Why did God almost kill Moses?

66Q.What are sacraments? A.Sacraments are holy signs and seals for us to see. They were instituted by God so that by our use of them by our use of them he might make us understand more clearly the promise of the gospel, the promise of the gospel, and might put his seal on that promise.

And this is God's gospel promise: to forgive our sins and give us eternal life by grace alone because of Christ's one sacrifice finished on the cross.

Romans 6:1-4 “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

67Q.Are both the word and the sacraments then intended to focus our faith on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross as the only ground of our salvation? A.Right! In the gospel the Holy Spirit teaches us and through the holy sacraments he assures us that our entire salvation rests on Christ's one sacrifice for us on the cross.
