3  One of the three subgroups that make up Christianity. (Catholicism, Orthodoxy and Protestantism.)  Began in 16 th Century Germany.

5  The protestant community is divided up into nine denominations:  Anabaptist  Anglican  Baptist  Congregational  Lutheran  Methodist  Pentecostal  Quaker  Reformed

6  Polynesians settles in NZ 800-1300 CE  First contact with Europeans in 1642  James Cook then returned n 1769 and canvassed the country  In 1890, the British and the Maori people signed a treaty

8  The Maori people are the indigenous people of New Zealand  Own unique culture and language, rich in mythology and arts  Maori people make up around 15% of the population at around 660 000 people

12  Protestant and Catholic missionaries began to travel to New Zealand in 1814 from Europe  Christianity became the major religion of the country, with the Anglican, Catholic and Presbyterian churches all establishing themselves strongly

14  Recent trends show that the number of non- Christian religions has increased dramatically  Roughly one-third of New Zealanders claim no religious affiliation

17  New Zealand is a fairly liberal nation with homosexual marriage.  The driving age is 15.  The Drinking age is 18.  Lake Taupo was the source of the largest known eruption in the world in the last 70 thousand years.  Sir Edmund Hillary – the first man to reach the peak of Mount Everest was a New Zealander and his face is on the New Zealand $5 bill.
