2 TABLEAU VIVANT Teacher: Elena Liakou Class: ΣΤ 5
Number of students: 18 Duration of project: one week Age of students: 11/12 Years of learning English: 4

3 Tableau Vivant which is borrowed from the French language means ‘living picture’. Throughout the duration of the display people do not speak or move. My goals for this project were for students to expand their vocabulary and to view and learn something about authentic pieces of artwork and gain an appreciation of art. I also wanted them to create their own artwork. After a class discussion, they were given a handout with specific instructions on how to go about doing the project. They were assigned to do research on a famous artist and create a ‘famous artist reference card’ along with a picture of one of their masterpieces. The students then had to create a living version of this famous painting by assuming the pose and facial expression of the subject. Here are some samples of their work.
