1 Our planet, the EARTH is SICK

2

3 Think about it before see a short movie
What makes the earth sick? What can we do for the earth?

4 Are you ready to save the Earth?
Let’s see a short movie Are you ready to save the Earth?

5 Identify the definition, “recycling”
Start up: Today’s objectives Identify the definition, “recycling” Recognize why recycling paper is important Classify how to make recycling paper

6

7 Recycling Definition:
The act of processing used or abandoned materials for use in creating new products.

8 Every year, the U. S generates almost 230 million tons of trash
Every year, the U.S generates almost 230 million tons of trash. Less than one-quarter of the trash is recycled, and rest of them is buried in landfills. We could reuse more than 70 percent of the buried waste.

9 What materials can be recycled?
Papers Aluminum cans Glass Plastic Still But, there are bunch of unrecyclable items, too. If you want to know the items, click the button below.

10 Tree and Paper Paper made from trees. It means every time we use paper, a tree must be cut down to meet our usage of paper. The more we use paper, more trees will be cut down. It is required 1.2 million timber trees to product the using papers for a day for all over the world. 42% of the large-scale felling of tress is used to make papers every year. Almost three million hectares of forest turns into a vacant lot each year.

11 The amount of paper used
It is countless how many papers we are using in our lives. . On average you use 580 pounds of paper each year! Recycling paper is easy and has a real benefit to the environment. Look around your home or office, that stack of paper three feet high you have been meaning to sort through is the equivalent of one tree that took years to grow! For every ton of paper we recycle, we save 17 trees.

12 The benefits of using recycled paper
How much water does it take to manufacture a sheet of paper? (click the answer) A trivia question

13 Are you sure? Try again Go back to the question

14 Yeah! You are right! See the detail answer

15 Hard to believe, but it takes 10 liters
The answer is…… Hard to believe, but it takes 10 liters (2.6 gallons) of water cumulatively to produce a sheet of A4 paper.

16 The benefits to using recycled paper
Use less energy Use less water Reduce air pollution Reduce water pollution Reduce acid rain Reduce garbage Recycling white paper creates 35% less water pollution and 74% less air pollution than making virgin paper because when producing recycled papers, the demand for virgin pulp are decreased, so it leads to reduce overall amount of air and water pollution.

17 We can save many things from 1 ton of wastepaper
17 trees 4100 kwh energy (enough to power the average home for six months) 7,000 gallons of water 60 pounds of air polluting effluents 3 cubic yards of landfill space taxpayer dollars that would have been used for the cost of waste disposal

24 What we need? A blender An electric iron Two wooden frames
We can make recycled paper from old newspaper, magazine, tissue, and ect. What we need? A blender An electric iron Two wooden frames Newspaper or other paper Glue Water A big tub

25 What We Do? Step 1: Make two small wooden frames the same size.
Step 2: Staple wire screen to one frame. This is called the mold. I do not have wooden frames. Is there any way to make the paper instead of using wooden frames?

26 You can make a frame out of the coat hanger.
Stretch the hanger and bend it into a rectangle or square shape. Take one leg of the panty hose and stretch it carefully over the hanger frame. (Make sure it is tight and flat.) Go back to the steps

27 Step3: Tear up newspaper into small pieces and soak it in a tub of warm water. Add vegetable peeling. Beet the mixture with a hand beater of fell a blender container half way with the mixture. Blend it until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Step4: Hold the mold, screen side up and place the empty frame on top. Step5: The frame allows the water to drain slowly and forms the edges of the “wet-leaf.” Dip both frames into the tub and scoop up some of the pulp. Step6: Raise the frames up slowly and let the water drain.

28 Step7: Remove the top frame
Step8: Place a cloth or paper towel blotter gently on top of the screen side. Place a piece of cardboard on top of the cloth and gently turn the screen. Step9: Cloth and car-board over. Sponge the screen dry. Step10: Lift the frame gently. The “wet-leaf” (new paper) should stay on the cloth.

29 Are you complete all these steps?
Step11: Cover the new paper with a clean Step12: Dry cloth and iron with medium heat. Are you complete all these steps?

Finally, you made it!!!! You save the EARTH I have prizes for those with own recycled paper. Please send me an with your picture here, Go back to the first page
