On the beef farm, corn is grown for cattle feed. The corn is harvested in two ways; shelled corn and corn silage. For my experiment, I wanted to see how corn grows from seeds.

For my experiment, I also wanted to see how accurate the seed corn tag on the bag was. On the fuzzy picture it lists a germination rate of 95%. 95%

hypothesis Before I started this experiment, I predicted the germination rate would be between 90% and 92%. I predicted this because the bag had stated 95% and I thought that number was a little high.
6
I used an exercise I found in my Corn project book as a guide. I performed two different experiments to compare my answers.
7
On the first experiment, I selected 25 seeds and placed them between 2 paper towels. I wet the paper towels with water and placed them in a Ziploc bag at room temperature. 25 Seeds Day one

Day fourDay seven I checked the seeds on day four. 22 of the 25 seeds had sprouted. I checked the seeds again on day seven, no additional seeds had sprouted.
9
I conducted a second experiment to verify the results of the first experiment. This time I used 50 seeds. On day five, 44 of the 50 seeds had sprouted. No additional seeds after that sprouted.

The temperature and moisture levels conditions simulated were not the same as if the seeds were in a field; however, no one can simulate the weather conditions exactly. In conclusion, the data results from both experiments show 88% seed germination. In my hypothesis, I predicted between 90% and 92%. I predicted a little high. The seed corn bag tag stated 95% germination. This was also high. Using these experiments as my proof, I believe the facts stated on the seed corn bag are not accurate.
