3 This is not your older child’s Algebra! (or yours, for that matter…) 2005 - 2013 The cost of 3 markers and 2 pencils is $1.80. The cost of 4 markers and 6 pencils is $2.90. What is the cost of each item? Now A high school drama club is putting on their annual theater production. There is a maximum of 800 tickets for the show. The tickets cost $6 before the day of the show and $9 on the day of the show. To meet the expenses of the show, the club must sell at least $5,000 worth of tickets. a)Write a system of inequalities that represents this situation. b)The club sells 440 tickets before the day of the show. Is it possible to sell enough additional tickets on the day of the show to at least meet the expenses of the show? Justify your answer.

10 When do we begin reviewing for the Regents? We have already begun! Spiral Sets (Q1 and Q2) o Assigned as homework on the night of a test o Includes topics from all previous units Mini-quizzes (Q3 and Q4) o Graded o 5 mini-quizzes = 1 quiz o Must be signed by a parent/guardian prior to being handed in o Includes topics from all previous units Regents Review Sessions o 5 weekly 40-minute review sessions o Before or after school o Each week’s session covers specific topics o Typically begins 6 weeks prior to the Regents

11 In Closing: What Can You Do? enthusiasm Show enthusiasm for your child’s study of mathematics be persistent Encourage your child to be persistent; make sure that he or she knows that mathematics requires patience, practice and time to think and reflect ask questions attend extra help Urge your child to ask questions during class or attend extra help for additional assistance review class notes watch FLIP videos Encourage your child to review class notes every night and watch FLIP videos repeatedly
