5. Overview This interactive game is designed for first and second grade students who have prior experience in learning about dinosaurs. Learning about dinosaurs is important because it is a fun element to incorporate in early science classes. Dinosaurs were huge and fascinating animals. The fact that they no longer exist makes them an interesting and fun phenomenon to learn about. Your students will never be disinterested!

6. Target Audience  The target audience for this program is 1 st and 2 nd graders.  The program cannot take hours to complete. 1 st and 2 nd graders are capable of staying interested in a topic for approximately 30 minutes.  Reading may or may not be an issue since they had just started learning how to read. Regardless, the language used in this program is fairly simple.  This program contains many pictures so that the students stay focused on what’s in front of them.  This program is easily navigable.  The topic being discussed meets Indiana academic standard SCI 1.3 2010-Observe, describe and ask questions about living things and the relationship to their environment.

7. Goals The primary goal for this lesson plan is to successfully assess students and their abilities to match dinosaur names and characteristics with the corresponding pictures.

8. Learning Objectives The leaner will be able to match dinosaur names and characteristics with the corresponding picture. The learner will score at least an 8/10 on the learning assessment.

9. Motivation Terry the Pterodactyl is a motivational character in the program. His purpose is to foster encouragement among the students. Whenever the student chooses the correct answer on the practice game and the assessment, Terry will praise them with one of his talk bubbles. He will uses phrases such as “Good Job!” or “Nice Work!” When a student chooses the wrong answer, Terry still gives phrases of encouragement such as “That’s Okay! Try Again!” Terry will also come with his own button on the bottom of the screen to give helpful hints during the practice game and as a guide on how to use buttons.

10. Orientation One of the primary functions of this lesson plan is to build a better understanding of dinosaurs. Students come into first and second grades already knowing some basic information about them. Some may know more than others. Students know that dinosaurs are big and extinct. They may even have an idea of what they look like based on movies such as The Land Before Time. They may also know what the dinosaur eats or where they live. This lesson will build upon this prior knowledge and extend it into a more comprehensive understanding of dinosaurs.

11. Information The types of information included in this program are:  distinguishing between whether the dinosaur is an herbivore or a carnivore.  Being able to tell where the dinosaur lived  What time period the dinosaur existed (just eras, not years)  Unique characteristics about each dinosaur to help better distinguish them from one another

12. Application This lesson plan will help the students in their future lessons by being an introduction to biology and nature science. They will continue to learn about different animals in the future and will be able to use the knowledge they obtain from this lesson to determine the characteristics of other animals.

13. Evaluation The evaluation will be administered through a 20 question assessment at the end of lesson. The first 10 question will be matching the dinosaur name to the characteristics. The next 10 will be focused on each individual dinosaur or vocabulary. This will ensure that the students can independently decide and understand the characteristics of each dinosaur without the help of matching.
