1. Domain B It is important to use multiple assessments and to vary them in nature, allowing students to showcase their learning by using their preferred learning style and modality. In the equation book project, students “went shopping” and choose 10 items. Students applied discounts to two items and tax to all. Students demonstrated their knowledge of calculating percents, applying mark- ups and markdowns to authentic pricing, and showed how to apply the final cost, using a 10 variable equation. They enjoyed this project because they got to show their creativity and interest, while using higher order thinking skills.

2. Aligned with the Common Core writing standards, in mathematics, students were asked to think analytically in regards to what they encountered when problem solving, throughout the project. This provided an opportunity for critical thinking and questioning and a personal reflection of their own learning.
