UPDATE ON CMS RESISTIVE PLATE CHAMBERS CMS RPC Barrel Collaboration GR1, 5 Aprile 2004

INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Introduction CMS RPC group GT HT Bari Pavia Introduction Sofia All the sites are in operation CERN Gap production on schedule Chamber production delayed by 2.5 months GIF activity is going on. Stop in June?

SG production INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Single/Double Gap Production and QC CMS RPC group

SG production INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Single/Double Gap Production and QC CMS RPC group

DG production INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Single/Double Gap Production and QC CMS RPC group

SG/DG production INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Single/Double Gap Production and QC CMS RPC group Overview on the full production # 1629 SG produced until 20 March 2004 overall rejection factor 17 % # 457 DG produced until 20 March 2004 overall rejection factor 3.5 % 2004 production Single gap rejection factor 10.7% ==> 70.2% overpressure test 10.6 % other 19.2 % high current

Chamber production INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Chamber production CMS RPC group

Gas circuit “T junction” INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Chamber production CMS RPC group Some “T” on the gas circuit supplying the small gaps in the GIF were attached by the HF. These “T” are made by poly-acetylic resins These components are used in the chamber gas circuit. However an inspection of the components present inside the RB1s in operation in the GIF has not showed any damage The use of moistly mixtures can accelerate the deterioration

Gas circuit “T junction” INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Chamber production CMS RPC group Produce a “custom T junction” in polycarbonate A flux reducer has also been produced. It is needed to equalize the flux between the two gaps of a layer

Gas circuit “T junction” INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Chamber production CMS RPC group Pre-production of the new “T junction” ready Full production at the end of the month Total cost about 20 k € Polycarbonate is extensively used inside the gap ( spacers, sealing frame)

Chamber assembly - HT INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Chamber production CMS RPC group HT in operation: # 46 chamber produced

Chamber test - Pavia INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Chamber test CMS RPC group In operation since October 2003. # 27 RB1s tested Two kinds of trigger (small/ big) Transport logistic: the same track from Pavia > CERN >Naples> Pavia One week trip In operation since October 2003. # 27 RB1s tested Two kinds of trigger (small/ big) Transport logistic: the same track from Pavia > CERN >Naples> Pavia One week trip More information available at:: http://lxpv01.pv.infn.it/~torre/testrpc/fatherframe.html More information available at:: http://lxpv01.pv.infn.it/~torre/testrpc/fatherframe.html

Conclusion INFN Gruppo I Roma, 5 April 2004 Conclusion CMS RPC group Review and freeze the installation schedule with the DT group in Aachen (end April) (any change is expecially harmfull for RPC) Boost the chamber test rate in Bari and Pavia Open “SX5 commisioning” front Continue up to end June GIF activity. Then probably concentrate on ISR and SX5 Review in May the budget situation Review and freeze the installation schedule with the DT group in Aachen (end April) (any change is expecially harmfull for RPC) Boost the chamber test rate in Bari and Pavia Open “SX5 commisioning” front Continue up to end June GIF activity.
