After years of delays and controversies, the millenarian treasures of the Acropolis of Athens, of incalculable value, have finally the frame that are deserved in splendid a new museum, inaugurated the 21 of June of 2009. In the heat of Makriyianni district raises the New Museum of the Acropolis: purified, elegant, ultramodern, enormous, almost outlandish, designed by Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi, and constructed on piles in the Athenian archaeological site. The new museum extends its horizontal lines on the foot of the Acropolis, exactly under the temple of the Partenon.

5. The building is a giant of crystal, iron, concrete marble and in its three main plants it lodges relics of up to 2500 years of antiquity found during diverse excavations on the rock of the Acropolis. Alexandros Mantis, person in charge of the archaeological set, emphasizes that the design of the museum “transports to the visitor to the old Acropolis and the life in the antiquity”.

15. The natural light that is used in the building is of great importance, offering a panorama and a sensation completely different from different hours from the day and still at night.
