2 Demonstrative Adjectives indicate where SOMETHING is. They show how close or far an item is from the SPEAKER (YOU). These demonstrative adjectives appear BEFORE the noun. They agree in gender and number with the noun that they describe. In respect to YOU and your location, you will indicate “this item”, “that item”, or “that far away item”: CLOSEFARVERY FAR Masculine Singular EsteEseAquel Feminine Singular EstaEsaaquella Masculine Plural EstosEsosAquellos Feminine Plural EstasEsasaquellas Esta camisa es azul (this CLOSE BY shirt is blue) Esa camisa es rojo (that FAR shirt is red) Aquella camisa es verde (that VERY FAR shirt is green) You

3 Demonstrative PRONOUNS take the place of nouns. They agree in gender and number with the noun that they REPLACE. ***Note the accent mark. When using the pronoun, the name of the noun is no longer used: CLOSEFARVERY FAR Masculine Singular ÉsteÉseAquél Feminine Singular ÉstaÉsaaquélla Masculine Plural ÉstosÉsosAquéllos Feminine Plural ÉstasÉsasaquéllas Ésta es azul ( REFERS to this CLOSE BY shirt being blue) Ésa es rojo (REFERS to that FAR shirt being red) Aquélla es verde (REFERS to that VERY FAR shirt being green) You

4 ¿Cuánto cuesta este anillo? How much does this ring cost? Ese anillo cuesta diez dólares. That ring costs ten dollars. Aquel anillo es más barato. That ring (over there) is cheaper.

5 Using this picture, where are the fish? Estos peces. Esos peces. Aquel pez. Yo quiero éstos Yo quiero ésos. Yo quiero aquél.
