Purdue University is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access institution. Land Use IP Video Series January 24, 2007 Purdue University is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access institution.

Situations for Discussion Following are 3 situations for discussion. Each site choose 1 (urban) or 2 (rural) All sites consider Issue 3 Be ready to share the discussion and any conclusions at your site

Purdue University is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access institution. Issue # 1 You were appointed to your Plan Commission (Area or City) by the Mayor because of a strong relationship with her. She now perceives you as an ally on the Commission and calls you to discuss issues to be sure you have the “Mayor’s perspective”. How do you handle this? Adapted from Greg Dale’s presentation

Purdue University is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access institution. Issue # 2 The county farm bureau president, a friend, approaches you at the county fair and wants to talk about a proposed site for an ethanol plant in an ag zone. He starts talking about positive impacts on the county tax base and benefits for local farmers, and says neighbors opposing the rezoning should quit whining about truck traffic, trains, noise, and odors, and support the plant. How should you react? Adapted from Greg Dale’s presentation

Purdue University is an Equal Opportunity/Equal Access institution. Issue # 3 Before a public hearing on a controversial zone change, the developer requesting the change introduces himself and wants to know your feelings on his proposal. You realize your spouse works for one of his businesses, and could be in line to manage that business in the future. What should you do? What if you discover this information about another commission member? Adapted from Greg Dale’s presentation
