1  The improvements seem to be related with the severity of disability. High scores in social skills, task orientation, and team work correlated with a low level of disability.  Another variable that affects the results is the number of activities carried out by the client: large number of activities correlated with low scores.  The skills that experience major improvements are: Ability to benefit from instruction or correction, Work Persistence; Extent to what the trainee seeks assistance from supervisor; Degree of comfort or anxiety with supervisor, and; Ability to socialize with co-workers ASSESMENT AND TRAINING OF WORK PERSONALITY PROFILES OF ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES (ID) IN RESIDENTIAL SETTINGS ASSESMENT AND TRAINING OF WORK PERSONALITY PROFILES OF ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES (ID) IN RESIDENTIAL SETTINGS C. Caballo Institute on Community Integration Universidad de Salamanca www.usal.es/inico Introduction The aim of the present study was to develop a training course to improve the labor skills of people with intellectual disabilities who are living in residential settings. To evaluate employability of the sample the Work Personality Profile created by Bolton & Roessler in 1986, that assess specific job maintenance tasks, was adapted and applied. A factor analysis of the 58 items was conducted to establish the five major factors: -Task Orientation- Social Skills - Work Motivation- Work Conformance, and -Authority Acceptance. WPP is composed of 11 scales: 1. Acceptance of the work role 2. Ability to benefit from instruction or correction 3. Work Persistence 4. Tolerance to changes 5. Amount of supervision required 6. Extent trainee seeks assistance from supervisor 7. Degree of comfort or anxiety with supervisor 8. Appropriateness of personal relations with supervisor 9. Teamwork 10. Ability to socialize with co-workers 11. Social communication skills Methods A quasi-experimental design with pre-post test was carried out with a sample of 603 persons with intellectual disabilities in 9 residential settings in Castilla y León. The research includes two types of residential settings: CAMP (Centers who assist people with severe disabilities) and CO (Centers who assist people with moderate disabilities). Dependent measures included the validated versions of The Work Personality Profile (Bolton and Roessler, 1986). After the evaluation process a training program was designed to improve the labor profile of participants. The intervention program consisted of several training sessions with the users of each center. The program was based on positive behavioral support and involved, among other techniques, operant conditioning, modeling, self-control, problem solving, decision making, behavioral contracts and training on functional academic skills. Results Data showed significant improvements of the work skills of the participants. These improvements were higher for the participants with moderate disabilities. Mean Pre-Post results of Scales - CAMP DiscussionConclusion  With an structured program it is possible to increase employability skills of young and adults with intellectual disabilities.  Intervention should consider individual and enviromental characteristics, and should be based on a Person-centered Planning aproach.  Training strategies and behavioral management techniques such as prompting, modeling, shaping, differential reinforcement stretegies, contingency contracts and token economy, have shown their efficacy with individual with moderate and severe mental retardation.  Organizational issues such as: a clear commitment toward team- working, horizontal and vertical communication, assessment tasks shared by all the personnel, exchange of information and good practices among professionals and organizations, and shared goals and mission, will improve the effects and long term efficacy of any intervention.
