Mikael Gröning, Lucas Zinner, July 5th 2007 EU research group UNICA Rector's seminar We received in total 21 questionnaires from Charles University in Prague (CU) Humboldt University Berlin Universidad Autonoma de Madrid Universidad Complutense de Madrid Universidade Nova de Lisboa Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest University of Copenhagen University of Lausanne (UNIL) University of Ljubljana (UL) University of Vienna University of Warsaw University of Zagreb University Pierre et Marie Curie – Paris 6 Vilnius University University College London Università La Sapienza (Roma1) Stockholm University Vrije Universiteit Brussel University of Tallinn Universiteit van Amsterdam Comenius University Bratislava

Mikael Gröning, Lucas Zinner, July 5th 2007 EU research group UNICA Rector's seminar UNICA questionnaire for rectors' seminar a. External Research Projects’ funding 1. The budget received from external research funding sources (EU, National Research Councils, etc) in the reporting year amounted to (indicative percentage) of the university’s budget. 2. The income received from external research funding sources (EU, National Research Councils, etc) in the reporting year amounted to (indicative percentage) of the university’s budget. 3. The total number of research projects active in the reference year. 4. The number of FP6-projects that the university coordinates.

Mikael Gröning, Lucas Zinner, July 5th 2007 EU research group UNICA Rector's seminar UNICA questionnaire for rectors' seminar a. External Research Projects’ funding The EU-FP6 funding share made at maximum 25-30% of the universities’ external research budget / incoming (Lausanne - CH being a special case) Although the numbers of running research projects among the universities show an enormous range from 40 to 9.000 (!): the EU-FP6 participation share is in comparison quite homogenous the EU-FP6 number of co-ordinations per university is quite low (administrative difficulties? non-existing professional management resources?) the EU “impact” in general is quite low

Mikael Gröning, Lucas Zinner, July 5th 2007 EU research group UNICA Rector's seminar UNICA questionnaire for rectors' seminar b. EU Frame Programs -- Incentive measures 1.Does your university / do your researchers have access to governmental (or other) financial support for the participation in the EU Frame Programs? 2.Does your university / do your faculties, departments have any financial incentives for the participation in the EU Frame Programs? 3.Does your university / do your faculties, departments have a rewarding system in case of successful participation in the EU Frame Programs?

Mikael Gröning, Lucas Zinner, July 5th 2007 EU research group UNICA Rector's seminar UNICA questionnaire for rectors' seminar b. EU Frame Programs -- Incentive measures There is no obvious correlation between financial support, incentive and rewarding system and the level of participation in EU-FP in the past. Ongoing discussions in many institutions with respect to incentive and support measures such as professional-team support to project preparation and submission financial support for coordinators (project management)

Mikael Gröning, Lucas Zinner, July 5th 2007 EU research group UNICA Rector's seminar UNICA questionnaire for rectors' seminar c. EU 7th Frame Program -- Preparation measures 1.Do you apply the Full Cost Model? 2.Do universities in your country received governmental (or other) support to introduce the Full Cost Model? 3.Did your university define a strategy for the participation in the EU 7th Frame Program? 4.Do you encourage your researches to become coordinators of FP7 projects?

Mikael Gröning, Lucas Zinner, July 5th 2007 EU research group UNICA Rector's seminar UNICA questionnaire for rectors' seminar c. EU 7th Frame Program -- Preparation measures 1/3 of the institutions already use FCM, 1/3 is in preparation with almost no governmental support. Many universities are in the process of defining a strategy for the participation in the EU 7th Frame Program (only 3 strict “No”), however only a few implemented Large majority of universities encourage coordinations of FP7-projects

Mikael Gröning, Lucas Zinner, July 5th 2007 EU research group UNICA Rector's seminar UNICA questionnaire for rectors' seminar d. EU 7th Frame Program -- Support measures Does your university have direct access to and support from your National Contact Point? Answers: In general universities have direct access to and support from National Contact Point – 2 exceptions
