5 The 8th Annual Library Leadership Institute, Apr 2010 Mission of the Library Purpose: To provide information on learning, teaching and research by identifying and responding effectively to the information needs of the University Audience: Faculty and students Methods: Via e-resources Via reference services Outcomes: To enable the Faculty and students to meet their research and learning needs.

Provide effective information services by offering a Learning Common Provide a digital platform Staff re-organization (e.g. subject specialists and outsource cataloging) To work out a contingency plan

7 The 8th Annual Library Leadership Institute, Apr 2010 SWOT Analysis Strengths (S) Stable Funding, Good Staffing (a hardworking team with strong systems librarian and reference librarian), Young teachers willing to accept changes.

9 The 8th Annual Library Leadership Institute, Apr 2010 SWOT Analysis Opportunities (O) Building up a new library is a new opportunity, in which  New director is willing to accept new changes  Can collaborate with other universities (e.g. Sydney Polytechnic & other 5 universities in the same province)  Join consortium to buy electronic resources at a cheaper price

Access to other libraries  Students can borrow Institutional Reader Card to access the libraries of the other 5 universities in the same province

15 The 8th Annual Library Leadership Institute, Apr 2010 Cloud Computing to the Library As cloud computing is still very new to us, our team has hesitation to adopt cloud computing in our library. We will observe the development of cloud computing and monitor the risk management plan of cloud computing.

(IT related degree holders or relevant experience) Reference Librarians x 4 nos. (e.g. Subject Specialists, User Education) Liaison Officer x 1 no. (to collaborate with other libraries) Cataloger x 1 no. Preservation Staff x 1 no. (to repair books)
