Shaper Delays one or all the packets in a traffic stream to bind them to agree with the traffic contract. Dropper Discards some or all the packets in the traffic stream that do not conform to the traffic contract.

6 2001/09/12Chin-Kai Wu, CS, NTHU6 Traffic policing Two different policing mechanisms that are based on the leaky bucket idea: conventional leaky bucket and adaptive leaky bucket assisted by traffic prediction. The purpose is to optimize the resource utilization, which in turn intends to minimize the number of violations to the QoS requirements of the traffic.
