LINTAR Environment for students and young researchers interested in the development and experimentation of techniques and methods of Artificial Intelligence (AI). LINTAR focus its researches and teaching activities mainly on:  Distributed Artificial Intelligence  Multi-Agent Systems  Knowledge Engineering  Knowledge Representation  - Knowledge Based Systems  - Case Based Reasoning

LINTAR activities are supported, coordinated and developed mainly by researches of DISCo (Department of Informatics, Systems and Communication) FULL PROFESSOR Prof. Stefania Bandini RESEARCHER Dr.ssa Sara Manzoni Dr. Giuseppe Vizzari JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW Dr. Ettore Colombo Dr. Alessandro Mosca Dr. Matteo Palmonari Dr. Fabio Sartori JUNIOR SCIENTIST Dr.ssa Federica Petraglia Dr. Giuseppe Frisoni PhD STUDENTS Dr. Andrea Bonomi Dr. Stefano Redaelli Dr. Glauco Mantegari

SOFTWARE TOOLS & PLATFORMS CReP (Case Retrieval Platform) - Software platform based on Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) paradigm providing a set of software facilities and tools for the representation of cases, their structure and similarity metrics. CBR is oriented to problem solving and reasoning mechanisms based on experiential knowledge and reasoning by similarity. CReP platform has been developed and experimented within P-Race, P-Truck, Symphony and SMMART projects NavEditOW (Navigation, Editing & Quering di Ontologie OWL) - Software system to support the development of semantic Web applications providing navigation, editing and query functionalities targeted to end users. NavEditOW has been developed and tested within Cultural Resource Management context

SOFTWARE TOOLS & PLATFORMS SCA4PED sw platform: simulation environment for crowds and pedestrian phenomena – it includes sw tools to support model specification, execution and analysis of SCA-based simulations to study the dynamics and complex behavior of crowds, as systems of interactive agents situated in a shared and limited environment. 3D simulation environment for virtual crowds in open and closed spaces Platforms and infrastructures for MAS models and applications (e.g. Adaptive web sites and Collaborative Ubiquitous Environments)

Experiences and Ongoing Researches on Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Based Systems Knowledge Based System development methodologies: Design and application of original methodologies for KBS based on Knoweldge Artifact and Communites of Practice concepts (in collaboration with the University of San Paulo (Prof. Flavio Soares) Knowledge Management solutions to support core decision making processes (e.g. desing of products and manufacturing processes) Tools for Knoweldge Acquisition (structured interviews, scenario simulation) and Knowledge Representation (ontologies, influence nets, task structures, SA nets) Conceptual and computational models for systems based on Case Based Reasoning (CBR) to support decision making and design activities. Application contexts of CBR have been, for instance, rubber compounding for truck tyre design (PRace and PTruck projects) and troubleshhoting of complex machinary (e.g. trucks) (SMMART project)

Experiences and Ongoing Researches on Knowledge Representation Qualitative Spatial Reasoning and Event Correlation. Definition of original Hybrid Logic for Commonsense Spatial Reasoning for event correlation in Pervasive Computing domains (e.g. monitoring and control systems) (in collaboration with Project Automation S.p.A. - SAMOT project - a System for the Monitoring and Control of Traffic Flows) Semantic Web: applications based on semantic techniques and tools for communities of users sharing interests and/or practices Ontological Knowledge Representation for structural, functional and behavioural aspects of domain entities. Development of suitable formal representation languages and reasoning tools. This research has been carried out for Design, Configuration and Planning processes dealing with product and process innovation in industrial domains. (e.g mereological knowledge representation of aggregate objects in chemical compounds and mechanical artefacts design - P- Truck, IDS and Guitar Heroes projects).

Experiences and Ongoing Researches on Distributed Artificial Intelligence and Multi-Agent Systems Pervasive computing systems: original models and methods for the design of distributed systems able to provide suitable architectural and behavioral models for the near-future scenarios pervaded by smaller devices (with growing computational capabilities and limited power requirements) that behave in a coordinated way towards system performances able to exploit components autonomy. Other reference application context are design of responsive and dynamic environments (in collaboration with CSAI and Vito Acconci Studio) and Web applications Situated MAS and Interaction models: original MAS- based modeling approaches for natural and artificial complex systems with explicit spatial features (Spatial dynamics, Perception/Behavior, Emotions). Complex dynamics in open and closed crowds (e.g. Lane formation as self-organizing phenomenon, Room evacuation and bottlenecks, Open crowds aggregation, Emotional interaction) Cellular Automata - CA-based and MAS-based models (Cellular and humoral interaction in immune system, Shopping centers localization in extra-urban areas, Forest ecosystems) Investigation and experimentation of original frameworks and architectures integrating Situated Multi-Agent Systems, Cellular Automata, Machine Learning & Genetic Algorithms
