2 Newfoundland Became a province on March 31 st, 1949 Joseph R. Smallwood (the leader that lead them into confederation) Newfoundland was the last province to join confederation in 1949.

3 “Joey” Smallwood (Joseph) Brought Newfoundland into Canada in 1949 From 1949 till the day he died, "Joey" was affectionately known as the only living father of Confederation

4 Facts When Newfoundland joined Canada it was Britain's oldest colony but then became Canada's newest province. Newfoundland entered Canadian Confederation in 1949 as the tenth Province, 450 years after being "discovered" by John Cabot. Silver Dollar

7 Some Positive Aspects of Confederation Helped to complete the Confederation dream of a country stretching from sea to sea to sea. Brought a new aspect to the culture of Canada, involving food, music, accent etc.
