2. Who is an international student? You are an international student if you are NOT:  an Australian citizen (including dual citizens)  a New Zealand citizen (including dual citizens)  an Australian permanent resident visa holder  an Australian permanent resident humanitarian visa holder

3. International students You must apply through UAC if in 2008 you are an international student undertaking:  an Australian Year 12 in Australia  an Australian Year 12 overseas  an International Baccalaureate in Australia  a New Zealand Certificate of Educational Achievement Level 3

4. What is UAC?  UAC stands for Universities Admissions Centre  UAC is the central office that receives and processes applications for participating institutions (all unis in NSW and the ACT, La Trobe uni on Vic, Griffith uni in Qld and AMC in Tas)  Institutions, not UAC, decide on offers  Each year UAC publishes the UAC International Booklet (and the UAC Guide for domestic students)  UAC notifies HSC students of their UAI

5. UAC 2009 International Booklet  Free copies of the UAC 2009 International Booklet are sent to schools in late July or early August 2008  The Booklet contains a table of courses available, instructions on how to apply and information on the participating institutions.

6. 2009 admissions  Applications open early August 2008  You are encouraged to submit your application by Friday 31 October 2008 for courses starting in Semester 1  You can still apply up until February 2009  Apply early and change courses later  If you apply for semester 1 2009, you do not need to re-apply for semester 2 2009 – just change your courses

7. Applying  International students must apply online through UAC International  Apply by 31 October 2008 for courses starting in semester 1 2009  Applications still received until February 2009  The processing charge is $57.50, which can be paid using a credit card or PayPal (if in Australia can also be paid using BPay or at Australia Post).  There are no late fees  You must provide an email address when you apply

10. What courses are available?  Not all courses are available for international students  Apply for international fee-paying (IFEE) courses only  Listed in UAC 2009 International Booklet, course descriptions on UAC’s website -go to www.uac.edu.au/international and click on course search www.uac.edu.au/international  Must study on a full-time basis  Must pay for the full cost of the course

11. Choosing your courses  Use only IFEE courses  Apply for courses that interest you and that you will be good at  Research your options through UAC (Booklet and website) and unis (Open Days and websites)  You can choose up to six courses  Check for early closing dates and additional requirements

12. Changing your courses  You can change your courses after you apply  Use Online applicant services at www.uac.edu.au/international www.uac.edu.au/international  Some courses have early closing dates  List the course by the course closing date  If agent-assisted you will need to enter an agent for each new institution you choose

13. Offers  Offer runs from mid-December 2008 to February 2009 for Semester 1 2009 courses  Most offers are made in January 2009  You may receive more than one offer in each offer run  Conditional offer letters will be sent from UAC  View offer letter via Online applicant services (www.uac.edu.au\international)

14. Accepting your offer  Follow instructions in your offer pack to accept offer by due date  Some institutions have online acceptance and facilities for online payments of fees and charges  Take particular note of any deadlines the institution has for accepting the offer  Once you have accepted your offer and sent payment, the institution will send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)

15. If you are leaving Australia for the holidays  Take your UAC 2009 International Booklet, your UAC application number and your UAC PIN with you  Remember you can change your courses  Use Online applicant services at www.uac.edu.au/international to check your correspondence, check your UAI, check your offer/s and keep your contact details up-to-date www.uac.edu.au/international
