This is due Wednesday, September 10 th.  Next class you will take a multiple choice practice AP exam.  Poetry quiz grades & questions will be in soon.

4 MULTIPLE CHOICE  With the person next to you, or pair in front/back of you, compare answers.  DO NOT change your answer if you find that what you thought was incorrect.  Write the correct answer next to your original answer (CORRECT ANSWER: C)  Discuss the following:  Where in the text can you find proof?  How did you eliminate answers?  Was there a choice that was somewhat arguable?  Are there terms that you do not understand used in the question/answers? (note these for research).

5 AP MULTIPLE CHOICE EXAM  60 Minutes  Section I contains 55 multiple-choice questions.  No credit will be given for anything written in the exam booklet, but you may use the booklet for notes or scratch work.  Use your time effectively, working as quickly as you can without losing accuracy.  45% of total score  Approximately 5 poetry and prose passages.  Do not spend too much time on any one question.  Go on to other questions and come back to the ones you have not answered if you have time.  Your total score on the multiple-choice section is based only on the number of questions answered correctly.  Points are not deducted for incorrect answers or unanswered questions.

6 DISCUSSION OF POEMS Shakespeare  What is he writing a poem about?  Subject is more beautiful and more temperate. What does temperate denote?  Time & Time’s effect on beauty  What changes in line 9?  Where is there an example of overstatement?  How does Shakespeare immortalize his subject? Robert Hayden  What type of poem is this? Lyric, descriptive, or narrative?  What tense?  What is this poem about?  What are the persistent conditions of life.

7 HOMEWORK  Read and complete questions in Sound and Sense for poems on pgs. 11-15. This is due Wednesday, September 10 th.  “I like a look of Agony”  “The Bean Eaters”  “The Red Wheelbarrow”  “Constantly Risking Absurdity”
