9 We can analyse causes by TIME Long Term Causes Something that is in place a long time before an event and builds up over time. Short Term Causes Things that happen a short time before an event takes place. A Trigger Cause Something that makes an event happen at a particular time and place.

12 We can also analyse causes by IMPORTANCE NECESSARY CAUSES Are essential for making an event happen. If this cause was not there Alphonse would not have died when he did. PRECONDITIONAL CAUSES Could be taken out of the story and Alphonse still would have collapsed and died.
