1 New NPO Provider Ordering Screen and New Provider and Nursing Workflow Pilot Begins August 26 th

2 Why the Change? Allows providers to place orders for when to resume diet(s) after an event (test or procedures) Allows nurse to resume diet based on provider parameters by placing a protocol order Reduces the amount of time spent calling and/or texting during a given shift Improves nursing workflow in caring for patients who underwent an event (e.g., test or procedure) Improves Patient satisfaction with reduced waiting time to get resume their diet

3 Provider Places NPO Order with Specific Parameters Provider enters parameters as to when to resume diet after specific event, e.g. test or procedure Provider indicates specific diet(s) to resume with ability to select from the drop down list.

4 Nurse Enters Protocol Order to Resume Specified Diet Click on the NPO order containing provider ‘s resume diet parameters on the left side of HEO screen Click discontinue and place orders for diet to resume. 2 In HEO: Select “protocol” order type and then select ordering provider 3 If ordering diet first, you may be prompted to discontinue conflicting orders 4 Click Order to resume diet. 1

5 Best Practices Nursing places a protocol order in Wiz/HEO when resuming diet orders Nursing clicks on discontinue and proceeds with resuming diet Avoid clicking on “modify” to resume order as this will only modify the NPO status “NPO except meds” and “NPO except ice chips” could have parameters for resuming diets as well Contact the HelpDesk 34(3-4357) for questions or issues
